The Hindu on Feb 27, 2019 06:07:50Indian TV star Saradhaa, who recently landed her first series in a new series on the National Geographic Channel, is in for a big shock in the near future as the channel is planning to debut a new kind of television star.
Saradhi is one of a number of women who are set to star in the upcoming season of National Geographic, which will be hosted by the late Neil deGrasse Tyson, which has been widely praised by critics.
The project is being spearheaded by National Geographic TV head and chief content officer, Gopal Krishna, who said in a statement that the programme would focus on a group of women with diverse personalities.
The show is being co-produced by National Geo and will be broadcast on the channel starting March 17, 2019.
“National Geographic is proud to welcome Saradhal as a star in this new project and look forward to a successful series,” Krishna said in the statement.
In an interview with the BBC earlier this year, Saradhia said that she would make the transition from being a showgirl to a television star by the time she turned 26.
“It’s my destiny to do so,” she said.
“My life story has been written for me, and I’ve made a lot of sacrifices to achieve it,” Saradia added.
“I’ve made sacrifices in my own way and now I want to show that the sacrifice is not enough.”
The programme will be based on a novel by British writer and journalist Christopher Priest, who is best known for his book The Culture of the Self, which explores the impact of cultural identity on human behaviour and behaviour change.
Saradshaa is one such author, who has also written the upcoming book The Woman in the White Suit, a collection of short stories that chronicles her life as a woman in the US.
“She has made a career out of her writing and her passion for her subject matter, which is a big part of her appeal,” Priest told the BBC.
“I’m delighted to have her join the cast.”
The show is expected to be hosted in the UK by host and presenter Sue Perkins, who will also be producing the programme alongside Priest and Krishna.
Perkins said in an interview that the project was the culmination of months of work, which included researching the story and making recommendations to the programme team.
“When I first started researching the book, it was about the impact that gender roles have had on the lives of the women I knew,” she told the UK’s Daily Telegraph.
“The books and the series are about women and men who are struggling to live their lives in the world they were born into, and the things they face.”
There’s this sense of an inevitability, this feeling of inevitableness, which feels like a very human thing to me.
“Priest, who worked with the actor and director on several documentaries, said that he had known for a while that he wanted to work with a woman on television.”
Priests wife, actress and producer Jashika Rana, who also produced the programme, said in her interview that she was looking forward to working with the actress on the show.””
It just felt like a natural fit to me because of the nature of what I do.”
Priests wife, actress and producer Jashika Rana, who also produced the programme, said in her interview that she was looking forward to working with the actress on the show.
“Sarada is the first Indian woman to appear on National Geographic,” Rana told the Daily Telegraph, adding that she and her husband were also looking forward “to seeing the first show with an Indian woman on it”.
“We’re so happy that the story of the world of the human race has finally been told,” she added.
Priests daughter Saradham is set to be the first woman to portray a leading role in a national broadcaster’s TV series.
The actor was cast in the role in 2017.
Priest said that his character would be different from her father, who was a professional actor.
“He was a big star in his own right, but I think he was more interested in creating a show,” Priest said.
“I think he wanted a different way of living his life and I think we’ve found a way to get a different experience.”
